How Mindfulness helps to manage emotions
The practice of “mindfulness” is a cross between meditation and deep breathing. In mindfulness, you try to clear your mind of thoughts and just breathe.
A good technique to try is that when a thought comes into your head, try to imagine that thought is a cloud crossing a clear blue sky. If you have a thought like “I’m worried about that project”, let the thought drift by like a cloud and try to stop yourself doing any more worrying.
It’s OK to find this hard. Just keep practicing. Each time the thought reoccurs, again let it float past in the sky. Try just a minute or two at first and then as you get better increase the time you do this to help get your emotions in check.
